The wedding, which was reportedly held on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, was dubbed “America’s royal wedding” and featured an extravagant woodland-inspired atmosphere.
However, a report published by the Daily Mail on Tuesday, October 27, alleged that the decorations were moved to an undisclosed location and destroyed only hours after the final guests had departed.
According to the publication, the alleged decision was intended to stop fans from taking pieces of the elaborate installation and attempting to sell them online.
The allegations quickly attracted criticism of Swift, as some social media users questioned the environmental consequences of destroying such an enormous setup.
“She loves polluting the earth,” one person commented.
However, the report also made clear that Swift herself had not personally instructed anyone to burn the decorations.
Taylor Swift’s Wedding Reportedly Featured A Massive Woodland-Themed Installation
According to the Daily Mail, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding included numerous specially constructed installations intended to transform the indoor arena into an enchanting woodland paradise.
The reported decorations featured walls resembling the Colosseum, artificial trees, fabrics covered in forest-themed prints, and a greenhouse-style structure measuring an impressive 35 feet in height.
The arrangements also reportedly included a peach-colored tent where guests could enjoy games and other activities.
Preparing the elaborate decorations required considerable planning and construction work before the wedding. Rock Lititz, located in Lititz, Pennsylvania, was reportedly one of the places where sections of the production were assembled.
Once completed, the structures were transported to New York City using 11 semi-trucks.
The enormous scale of the reported arrangements contributed to the wedding’s estimated $30 million cost, although that figure has not been independently verified.
A Report Claims The Decorations Were Burned To Prevent Resales
The controversy emerged after the Daily Mail published claims that the elaborate wedding installations had been destroyed instead of being stored for future use or made available for reuse.
An unnamed source quoted by the publication claimed that Swift’s team was worried fans could take pieces of the decorations and attempt to sell them through online auctions or resale websites.
“They didn’t want people to steal it and then auction or sell it, so they just burned it all,” the source alleged.
The insider reportedly called the decision “wild,” considering how much money and effort had gone into creating the installation.
The publication also emphasized that Swift had not personally instructed anyone to destroy the decorations.

Nevertheless, the alleged destruction raised questions about why the structures were not taken apart, donated, recycled, or preserved for another event.
Concerns about possible reselling were reportedly connected to the actions of certain fans during the wedding period. Some people were allegedly spotted collecting used bottle caps and other discarded objects from the Madison Square Garden grounds.
However, the allegation that the wedding decorations were burned is based on information from an unnamed source, and the claim has not received independent confirmation.
Social Media Users Accuse Swift Of Being Environmentally Irresponsible
After the report surfaced, several critics headed to social media to share their disappointment over the alleged destruction of the wedding decorations.
Some users argued that burning specially constructed installations after just one celebration was incredibly wasteful, particularly considering the quantity of materials and transportation reportedly required to create them.
One person commented, “I’m a fan but this is insane.”
Others brought up previous criticism surrounding Swift’s private jet travel, suggesting that the alleged decision to destroy the wedding decorations raised additional concerns about her environmental impact.
“When your jet emissions aren’t enough,” one critic remarked.
Another added, “what a climate terrorist. As if the jet emissions werent enough.”
Swift Has Previously Faced Criticism Over Private Jet Emissions
The latest wedding-related controversy has also brought renewed attention to criticism of Swift’s private jet usage.
In 2024, Newsweek reported that the singer had produced 138 tons of CO₂ emissions over a three-month period, based on figures included in its coverage.
A 2022 study conducted by UK marketing agency Yard also placed Swift at the top of its ranking of celebrities with the highest estimated private jet carbon emissions among those examined.
These figures have attracted criticism from environmental advocates, who point out that private aviation can produce considerably more emissions than commercial air travel.
Leah Thomas, the author of The Intersectional Environmentalist, addressed the subject during an interview with BBC Travel.
“Swift’s carbon emissions are extreme and are polluting the atmosphere,” she stated.
She also discussed the broader effects of greenhouse gas emissions, explaining that carbon accumulating in the atmosphere contributes to global warming and increases the risk of extreme weather events.
Swift’s representatives have previously addressed concerns about her travel habits.
Her publicist told BBC News that the singer purchases carbon offsets to balance out emissions associated with her private jet use.
According to a statement published by the Associated Press, Swift had purchased twice as many carbon offsets as necessary to cover her travel emissions for the Eras Tour before the tour began in March 2023.
Those credits were intended to compensate for emissions generated during the tour, although how effective carbon offsets are depends on the quality and actual results of the environmental projects they support.
How Carbon Offsets Are Supposed To Compensate For Emissions
Carbon offsets are credits purchased by individuals or organizations as a way of compensating for greenhouse gas emissions. The money is used to support projects designed to reduce emissions or remove existing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Examples of these initiatives include planting forests, protecting existing woodland, and developing projects that capture methane before it can escape into the atmosphere.
The basic principle is that financial support for these environmental projects can help balance emissions produced by activities such as flying.
In Swift’s situation, her publicist previously explained that she had purchased additional carbon offsets to account for the emissions associated with her Eras Tour travel.
However, carbon offsets continue to be debated among environmental specialists. Their effectiveness depends on whether the projects produce real, measurable reductions in greenhouse gases that would not have happened without the funding.
Critics of celebrities using private jets maintain that directly reducing emissions should remain a priority, regardless of whether additional carbon offsets are purchased.
Some Fans Defended Swift, Saying Custom Decorations Are Difficult To Reuse
Not everyone supported the criticism being directed at Swift.
Some fans defended the singer, arguing that the reported decorations had been specially designed and constructed for one particular celebration and might not have been suitable for resale or reuse at another event.
One person commented, “No one recycles custom made wedding decor or sets they either keep it or trash it.”
The installation reportedly contained personalized elements and structures created specifically for the wedding, potentially making it challenging to adapt them for another couple or venue.
Another person suggested that the sheer size of the installation could make purchasing and transporting the structures financially impractical for most interested buyers.
Other social media users questioned whether the original Daily Mail report was even reliable.
“Are the source the voices in your head,” one person joked.
Meanwhile, some users criticized the publication’s reporting standards, with another commenting, “People in the comments actually believing this woman and any “news” from the Daily mail is the reason critical thinking skills are in free fall”
